Annatto is a type of food coloring made from the seeds of the achiote tree (Bixa orellana).Though it may not be well known, an estimated 70% of natural food colors are derived from it. In addition to its culinary uses, annatto has long been used in many parts of South and Central America for art, as a cosmetic, and to treat various medical conditions.
Each one of the pieces is 100% handmade with real seeds flowers and spices encapsulated in resin. The resin is poured in silicon molds and cures for 7 days. Once I remove it from the mold, I hand sand each piece through multiple grades of sandpaper to create a smooth, soft finish which shows in detail the object inside the resin.
Since nature does not create two identical seeds, spices or flowers, the shape and size of the nature being used in the decoration may not match.
